2023 Canola Trial Results

Canola Trial conducted during the 2023 season

Seed Rate Trial - To compare three different seeding rates of canola with the same fertility.

Deep Phosphorus Placement - To understand phosphorus uptake when placed deeper in the soil profile in a separate pass

Drill Configuration Comparison - Single knife vs Dual knife vs TriMax - Compare a PLS with PLDS opener, with different nitrogen placement and seeding rate.

Nitrogen Placement - SB vs MRB - To compare differences in seed mortality and yield between various phosphorus products, either having the full amount placed in the seed row (SR), or having half placed in the SR and the rest in a mid row band (MRB).

Nitrogen Rate with Source and Band Placement - Compare different rates of nitrogen using different types of nitrogen fertilizer in different band placements.

Nitrogen Source and Placement Trial - Band vs Broadcast - Identify differences in canola when different sources and placements of nitrogen are used.

Opener Tip Size - To compare our common ¾” single knife tip size to a 2” tip at varying rates of seed placed starter fertilizer.

PLDS Opener - To determine if seed safety can be achieved by moving the seed knife away from the fertilizer band to the side, or having the fertilizer band go deeper relative to the seed depth.

Starter Phosphorus - To compare differences in seed mortality and yield between various phosphorus products, either having the full amount placed in the seed row (SR), or having half placed in the SR and the rest in a mid row band (MRB).

Designing Equipment Around Agronomy

Bourgault operates a 2500 acre research farm in St. Brieux Saskatchewan. Every year Bourgault conducts field trials which help understand the impact of the design of the equipment on crop development, as well as to provide customers and agronomists with recommendations on how to best utilize the Bourgault lineup of equipment.
